Computer Labs
Computer Labs and Research Facilities
We provide a variety of computing resources to meet student and research needs. Facilities include classroom computer labs, major specific access labs, and research group labs. Contact your Academic Advisor to learn which computers you can access. Please let us know if you have questions. All systems require login with your NetID and password.
Access to all computers is on a first-come, first-served basis.
General Facilities
The general-use open computer labs are located in ESC N212 and ESC N363.
All computers run Windows 11 and can be accessed using your NetID and password.
- ESC N212 also serves as a classroom. Please check the schedule posted by the door for availability.
- Access Required: These rooms require card access. Submit an access request or see Shelena Shamo (ESC N281) for assistance.
- Software Access: Most course-related applications are also available remotely through CloudApps.byu.edu
Acoustics
Acoustics students involved in research or approved projects may use the computers in ESC C110. Access is limited to members of an acoustics research group.
Each computer in C110 features:
- Windows 11
- Intel i7-12700K CPU, 32 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD, and RTX A2000 12 GB GPU
These systems are equipped with specialized software for acoustics research and offer superior performance for Matlab and Mathematica computation compared to CloudApps.
Astronomy
Astronomy students engaged in research or project work may use computers in ESC C430, N485, and N479.
ESC N485 and N477: Windows 11 systems with:
- Intel i7-12700K CPU, 32 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD, RTX A2000 12 GB GPU
- Configured for media creation, including planetarium and show production.
- ESC C430 and N479: Ubuntu GNU/Linux systems configured for astronomy research software.
Theoretical and Mathematical
Physics
Theory students may request access to the computers in ESC N216 through the Theory Research Group Leader. This room has both Windows and Linux computers.
